A song about being careful what you wish for.
Sang this with a sore throat which I thought actually gave it a “rock edge” to the vocal. I pictured John Cougar Mellancamp doing this when I wrote and recorded it onto my trusty 4 track cassette recorder in 1986.
There’s a much better version hiding around somewhere in my cassette library but I gave up digging for it. Sorry.
Year: 1986
She walks down through the city
She shops Fifth Avenue
She knows she looks real pretty
Inside her penthouse view
She is a full time model
She is a big success
she’s making lots of money
Too bad her life’s a mess
Making love to lonlieness
Making love to sorrow
Maybe she’ll find happiness
When she wakes up tomorrow
It’s allright! It’s okay!
I still love her anyway
Her Dad’s a wealthy banker
Her Mom owns restaurants
They never say “I love you”
Just give her what she wants
Making love to lonliness
Making love to sorrow
Maybe she’ll find real success
When she wakes up tomorrow
It’s allright! It’s okay!
I still love her anyway
Money talks you know that it’s true
But it don’t mean you’re happy
It’s got a way of getting to you
But it don’t mean you’re happy
Oh no!
She goes to garden parties
Gets drunk on daddy’s yacht
She’s tired of plastic people
Who brag about all they’ve got
Making love to lonliness
Making love to sorrow
Maybe she’ll find happiness
when she wakes up tomorrow
It’s allright! It’s okay!
We still love her anyway
She walks down through the city
She shops Fifth Avenue
You want to be just like her
She wants to be like you
She wants to be like you
